THE CHALLENGE
Extend the life of premium trampoline components by creating new, innovative and sustainably made products for NORTH TRAMPOLINE
SUMMARY
The RE-GOAL is the result of a project called Re-Use, Re-Invent, Re-Market. It is entirely made of upcycled trampoline components, improving the materials’ life cycles. The RE-GOAL also stands out with its innovative ability to return the ball to the player.
North Trampoline wanted to expand their product range with other types of products that gets kids more physically active. After surveying schools we found that the most popular ”backyard sports” played in Scandinavia are football, basketball, volleyball and racket sports.
There is an issue with these sports, which is that they can't really be played alone.
The problem, we found, is that constantly fetching the ball quickly gets boring when playing alone and ultimately leads to kids sitting indoors on the sofa instead.
We wanted to create something that could be played by kids who are on their own, the same way they can on a trampoline. To do this, the ball needed to be returned to the player.
With some basic prototyping, we then explored ways to recreate a new, engaging product using the properties of the trampoline materials. The goal was to keep as many components as intact as possible.
The result was the RE-GOAL. The goal’s angular nets deflect the ball back out to the kicker. The rigid nets, made of trampoline safety nets and a jumpmat, are pulled back tight by five adjustable straps.
Unlike most trampolines and other backyard eye-sores, The RE-GOAL retains North Trampoline’s sleek aestethics making it a product people will proudly keep on their lawn.
Upcycling and reusing the intact trampoline components minimises the extensive manufacturing processes and reduces harmful emissions  drastically. By fitting all the parts in a compact box suitable for EU-pallets, emissions and costs can be reduced further.
After some final tests, using the donated trampoline parts, we put together a functional prototype which was presented to North Trampoline and the public at the Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair 2020.

The Re-Use, Re-Invent, Re-Market projects were presented at the international annual fair where they initiated many discussions on sustainability. The RE-GOAL prototype received a lot of praise for its innovation and even received a few order inquiries.
