Design a financially, environmentally and socially sustainable product for GLÄNTA, a company who make outdoor furniture and gyms. The product should encourage healthy and social activities that are physically and mentally challenging.
SUMMARY
One could say this adaptable see-saw concept was the runner-up to the Pulsen thesis project. It started as way to improve an existing GLÄNTA product by making it useful for a wider demographic by combining their gym product with a playground classic, the see-saw. What followed was a few different interpretations of these originals.
These concepts were built on a couple of main ideas. The first is that the weight / difficulty should be adaptable. This adaptability opens up the use to more users. It means that when it is used as a see saw, it can be used by people who may not weigh as much as eachother, or to simply to play around with physics of it.
The second idea is that strength exercise should be combined with play. It should be fun to use, and can, for example, be used by a parent and their child together.
It should encourage many people to use it together, on the playground or in training.
By enabling the users to move the the see-saw's tipping point, it drastically changes the weight which creates a lot of different options for the person exercising or playing (or both). Lifting off the ground or pulling down from above, the weights can be changed.
It can of course be used alone, but with the bodyweight(s) of company there are even more options.  Wide handlebars in either ends offer plenty of gripping space.
Another twist on the concept is this "double see-saw" which is even more playful. This iteration focussed on trying to include even the laziest and less interested people by incorporating comfy net seating. Once they start hanging out, playfulness will inevitably lead to physically challenging activities.
This version would probably not be able to move in the same way as the previous due to it's weight. However, with the large net parts, it enables the user(s) to change the weight by using their bodyweights or by placing weighted objects (such as their bags) on the nets.
