THE CHALLENGE
Design a financially, environmentally and socially sustainable product for GLÄNTA, a company who make outdoor furniture and gyms. The product should encourage healthy and social activities that are physically and mentally challenging.

SUMMARY
This project looked at ways to improve the asphalt-dominated outdoor environments of schools. The concept is aimed at the problematic age group of 9 to 15-year-olds who tend to become sedentary due to their behaviour changes and the lack of inspiring products available to them.
The PULSE offers the kids much-needed strength, agility and mobility exercises and can be used as an obstacle course.
It also lets the kids challenge eachother’s coordination and focus with the tricky wire loop game along the impulse curves running along the sides of the frame.
Platforms at either end of The PULSE give the kids a place to hang out and catch their breath, before getting lured into more exciting activities.
There is no right or wrong way to use The PULSE, which leads to a healthy and creative atmosphere around it, drawing in even the most inactive kids.
Shipping and assembling The PULSE is easy thanks to its construction. With the two platforms pre-welded in the factory, the entire frame can be quickly assembled on location with only some nuts and bolts.
The PULSE can be manufactored using GLÄNTA’s existing production methods.
The seamless impulse curves are fastened into the platforms with two bolts, ensuring a safe and stable structure which will not twist or warp.
THE PROCESS
Once the project planning was laid out, the first step was to research the issues at hand and put together a design specification. This document collects all the relevant information regarding the problems faced, the needs of the users and the solutions requirements.

Part one of the document should summarise the current situation, what the users do today, what their frustrations are, and also what their goals are and what an ideal situation would look like. The second part looks at what the user expects of the product (whether they are aware of it or not).
DESIGN ANALYSIS OF GLÄNTA GYM PRODUCTS
This method of analysis was done to determine what characteristics define the typical GLÄNTA product by identifying what design language and materials exist in their current products.
